Fic:  Abbadon, Schmabbadon

Author:  CrabbyLioness

Characters:  Bilis/???

Summary:  What Bilis really wanted.

Requested by my husband and written for our 19th wedding anniversary.

Rating:  G

Word Count:  351

Bilis looked out the window and double-checked his readings before turning to look back into the bedroom of the tiny flat he had rented.  "The animal is dead.  Even in their weakened and confused state the defenders of the Rift destroyed it.   It would be wise to avoid them until my Lord has recovered from his journey.

"But the deception worked.  Their Rift Manipulator is so powerful and so unfocused that I was able to divert some of the energy to open my Lord's prison.  Their instruments are too crude to detect the subtle fluction amidst all the temporal-spatial static they generated, and they'll be busy cleaning up everything else that washed through."

The figured on the bed stirred weakly and uttered a whispered, "Good."  It pained Bilis to see how his Lord's captivity had debilitated him.  His skin should not look so grey and loose.  His eyes should not look so dull.

"If my Lord agrees, I think it would be best if I kept a low profile for now.  It would not be wise to draw their attention  while my Lord recuperates.  After he has regained his strength, he can crush Torchwood with his slightest breath before stripping the Earth of all life and ripping it from it's sun.  But for now..."

"My safety is paramount.  Yes.  Make no further moves until I am stronger."

Bilis crossed his wrists and bowed.  "As you command, Master."

"And when I am well I shall grind this wretched rock into powder for what they have dared to do to me."

"Very good, Master."  Bilis smiled to himself.  It was good to hear his God talking like his old self again.  "There are things I must attend to now.  If I may be permitted?"

"Yes, yes, see to them."  Bilis bowed again and moved toward the door.  He turned back when the whispered voice said his name.

"Yes, Master?"

The figure  hesitated for a moment, as if not sure what to say.  "You have been a faithful servant of the Dark One, Bilis."

Bilis was stunned.  Praise was unheard of in his Master's service.  "I am honored, Lord Sutekh."

Author's Note:  Sutekh is from the Fourth Doctor's The Pyramids of Mars, considered by many to be the finest Classic Who story.

For some reason the more I think abotu that the more it makes sense, it really makes sense...

It's just like so weird but it does make perfect sense, someone else doing the work, and of course pretending that's the important one to protect him.

I need to watch the Pyramdis of Mars!

Happy anniversary!

Well, they're always playing double, triple, quadruple games in the Whoniverse, I can't think why the Woodieverse would be any different.

...& they really should be more thorough about mopping up the minions.

Thank you!

Same universe, different lens.

...& they really should be more thorough about mopping up the minions.

To be fair, they at least made a stab at it. The Doctor usually doesn't bother to try.

"Same universe, different lens."

Precisely.

"To be fair, they at least made a stab at it. The Doctor usually doesn't bother to try."

True, & credit where it's due, though my impression was that they got distracted by Jack's Sleeping Beauty impersonation (or impersonation of one of the Seven Sleepers, as they're in Wales & all).

The Doctor seems to believe once the immediate problem has been solved (as he defines it), by Rassilon, it's *solved*, never mind aftereffects or collateral damage, & during the last couple of seasons of DW I for one have enjoyed seeing aftereffects he ignored come back & bite him on the butt.

That's the best part of New Who! I've waited 30 years to see that happen. It's worth it. :D

Wow, you have waited a long time; I've only waited 20. But it is indeed worth it.

Whereas we used "Sci-Fi are having a stupid marathon" as ours.

It was the first one we grabbed.

Thank you! Dh has learned there are advantages. As he said recently, "You're frisky tonight. Have you been writing slash again?"

:D

Y'know, another fan writer commented on the benefits of slash as a marital aid to me several years ago; apparently an underutilized means...

Well of course. Just think what a dent it would make in the sale of Viagra!

Aww, my heart just breaks for the drug companies. Though, truth be told, better Viagra than rhino horn.

I didn't comment on this? Bad me.
First of all, Happy Aniversary and congrats! :)
Second, ooh, nice atmospheric story. I confess, I don't know much about old school Who, but the more I learn, the more I want to catch up! :)

Thank you! The early part of the Fourth Doctor's regeneration is full of wonderfully moody science fiction/horror stories. It's probably got most of the best writing in the Classic Series.

Gosh, I didn't intend for it to be creepy.

Unlike the PWP I'm working on.... ;)

Okay, well the creepy could just be me! :)

But if you're going to try to be creepy... uh-oh. I may need a sofa to hide behind.

ok, so I have to admit that as I was reading it, I was picturing Bilis and his Master as Sith but I DO like the Sutekh idea and it works so perfectly - fantastic idea and happy anniversary :)
