At a Lincoln Day Dinner event in Florida, she was asked about the possibility of a brokered Republican convention.
“One of the ones promoting that is Sarah Palin, who has suggested herself as the choice,” Coulter replied. “I think as long as it’s between us girls, I’ve been observing something about her. I don’t think it’s likely to happen. I don’t know what these people are cheering for.”
***********
“Dennis Kucinich, he’s a nut, he has fanatical followers, [but] he doesn’t gets a show on MSNBC. He doesn’t get any kind of gig on MSNBC. He’s road kill. Howard Dean doesn’t get a show. Howard Dean was fairly respectable for a Democrat. No, you embarrass us and drag this thing out, and you are finished in the Democratic Party.”
She noted that Republicans had been asked to sign a number of controversial pledges, such as Grover Norquist’s anti-tax pledge and The Family Leader’s marriage pledge. But the only pledge, Coulter joked, that she would support was one that said: “If I lose the nomination, I pledge I will not take a gig with Fox News or write a book.”
Looks like a death match is brewing between the Randian Republicans and the Fundy Republicans. Coulter has picked her side.

Date: 2012-03-15 12:50 pm (UTC)Why does nobody ever call them on this kind of comment? It smacks of a lack of respect for colleagues, for the business of governing the country, and for a good chunk of the electorate. Unless it was said very, very much tongue in cheek, I can see that leading to a scandal over here; and we have the slimiest, least trustworthy politicians in the world. They've still got to be polite to each other, though. Get your act together, GOP.
Although for all I know the other side are just as bad.
Sorry. Focusing on the wrong thing here, I know!

"Lack of respect" doesn't even begin to cover her usual attitude. Her statements are usually nothing but high-vitriol attacks. That's why for her to say anything the least bit complimentary of Democrats (even by inference), let alone saying the Democrats do something worthwhile better than her precious Republicans is such a tectonic shift that it has us utterly gobsmacked.

A dear friend of mine is in the Army. At this point, she is pretty much Career since she's considering her fifth re-enlistment. Awesome woman, and a democrat/liberal. On Ann Coulter's claim that Liberals hate America, she said:
"Oh, damn! That must be why I signed on the doted line for the Red, White, and Blue!"
Her family is a military family, and all Liberals to the core.

Dh (home for spring break) adds that both Coulter and Palin have attitudes that are complete turn-offs.

Date: 2012-03-15 05:59 pm (UTC)Are there Democrats whose ideas are too far outside the mainstream for national elected office? Yes.
Are there Democrats who commit financial crimes? I think so. I can't think of any names at the moment, but I wouldn't say there aren't.
Are there Democrats who commit sex crimes? No, certainly nowhere near the level of the Republicans. I'm thinking of making a post called "Name that Republican Sex Criminal"; I've got a list of about 30 so far. It's worth remembering that the list not only includes a ton of closet homosexuals but also the former Assistant Director of the Seattle Crime Prevention Advisory Commission, former Assistant Director of the Washington State Republican Party and the author of a very detailed official Washington State Rape Prevention pamphlet for women, Ted Bundy.
I'm reminded of Neil Gaiman's line, "When angels go bad, they go very, very bad."

Date: 2012-03-15 06:14 pm (UTC)That one always gets me. Just.....the story of crime writer Ann Rule talking about working with Bundy at a volunteer emergency suicide hotline. And he would walk her to her car every night, because he was concerned about her safety because there are bad people out there.
