Spoilers through Greeks Bearing Gifts
Summary: Mary gives Ianto an idea. My token straight-angst fic.

Ianto would be bored if he weren't so miserable. After the grueling task of secretly caring for Lisa and her life-support systems, secretarial chores barely keep his hands busy, let alone his mind occupied. It's the first time in ages there hasn't been some Project to concentrate on.

He knows the next Project he wants to work on. He wants to make Jack Harkness suffer for Lisa's death. But how? The man is smart, experienced, and seemingly impervious to harm. Usually he's the one rescuing others. And Ianto doesn't want to put the rest of the team in danger. Just Jack. The Project looks like it will never get off the ground, but Ianto keeps one eye open for possibilities. It's not like he has anything else to do.

Then Mary showed up. She'd been so proud of what she could achieve with her pretty face and a willingness to use sex to get what she wanted. Ianto had a pretty face, too. A pretty face Jack Harkness used to flirt with. Maybe Ianto could use sex to get revenge on Jack.

He cringed on the inside the first time he thought that. But not on the outside. Ianto didn't just have a poker face, he had a poker body as well. Could he sell his body for a shot at vengeance?

Could he sell his body for Lisa?

He lets a few weeks pass, weeks he spends double-checking what little he knows about Jack's likes and dislikes. One night after the others leave he stages a quiet breakdown, lets Jack take him home, and doesn't let Jack leave.

He swallows a scream the first time he kisses the monster. Then his own need for touch takes over and he no longer cares that it's Jack. He can't get enough contact.

They shag until Ianto falls asleep in the early hours of the morning. He wakes up to find a note on his pillow saying Jack has gone on to the office. He knows nothing more about Jack Harkness except that Ianto can get him in bed.

He goes to work feeling sore, giddy, and sick all at the same time. Nothing shows on his face. Nothing ever shows on his face. The next time they have an early night he takes Jack home again.

They fall into a pattern. Ianto tries to get Jack to talk about himself and ends up telling Jack all about Ianto. Jack talks up a storm but never says anything pertinent. They have sex until Ianto passes out or it's time for work. Jack recycles the note on Ianto's pillow. He never sleeps at Ianto's flat.

Ianto replaces one dull ache with another. He tells himself he's searching for information. He tells himself it's just physical, he hates Jack, he'll stop as soon as he gets what he's looking for. He can stop whenever he likes.

Jack watches Ianto with ancient eyes in a weary face.

Oh my goodness - this is so *wrong* - must be why I like it.

I wonder what Ianto was going to do once he got Jack hooked? Break his heart?

Awful detail: Jack *recycles the same note*.

He's probably used THE SAME NOTE with OTHER PEOPLE. The sticky is actually wearing off of the back. Oh, Jack.

No, he leaves the note with Ianto. Ianto could always throw it away or hide it. Ianto doesn't.

This is in all respects a mutually consensual fuck-up.

Oh, poor Jack -- he totally knows the score. I wonder if his reasons for playing along aren't dissimilar to Ianto's dull ache at the end.

Yeah he does, I think he misses the Doctor in the same sort of way Ianto misses Lisa...sad. They're using each other but there's something else there.

Thank you. I'm usually an advocate of "if it hurts, don't do it", but this fic jumped up and slapped me in the face with both hands. SOMEBODY had to write it, and it might as well be me.

Wow. that is fabulously messed up. Both your Ianto and your Jack ring true, in a kind of pessimist way. like the kind of terse writing style which works v. well here. nice!

Loved these lines. Who will crack first? What's going on in Jack's head? Any chance of a Jack POV?

I'm reading my way through your back-catalogue - and Oh My God - is there a sequel to this I haven't found yet?

And if not, why not ???? (sequel, that is)

This is chillingly good.
