It was a fairly dull day at the Hub.  Jack smelled coffee.  He looked up from his paperwork to see the new transfer, Ianto Jones, handing out fresh, steaming cups.

Jack got up, leaned against the door frame, and admired the view.  What Ianto did to a suit was enough to restore his faith in British menswear.  Jack decided Ianto had had enough time to settle in.  It was time for Jack to try out his new hobby.

He glanced around the room.   Everyone was present.  Good.  No one could say later they missed it or didn't understand his intentions.  Now to keep it light...ah!

"Ianto."

Ianto turned around from handing Suzie a cup.  "Sir?"

"Are you wearing an undershirt?"

"Why do you ask, sir?"

"Because when I'm undressing you in my mind, it's nice to know how many layers I need to go through."

Tosh gasped.  Ianto's eyebrows climbed up his forehead.  Suzie rolled her eyes.

"Back off the newbie, Harkness.  Not everyone thinks you're God's gift to bedrooms," Owen said without looking up.

"I'm just asking, Owen."

Suzie frowned.  "Owen's right, Jack.  Ianto, if he bothers you, let me know and I'll hit him."

Jack grinned.  "Oooo, for real?"

"Thank you, Ma'am, but I fear that would only encourage him."

Suzie smiled at Ianto.  "It's Suzie, please."

"Suzie."  Ianto made his way over to Tosh's desk.

"Back to my question, Ianto."

"May I ask you a question first, sir?"

"Go right ahead."

"Am I correct in assuming, sir, that you are planning a campaign upon my virtue?"

Jack collapsed against the door frame, laughing.  Owen threw down his pen in disgust.

"Oh for chrissakes, nobody talks like that!"

"Hush!" Tosh said, making shushing motions with her hands.  "He's channeling Jeeves.  I think it's charming."  She grinned up at Ianto as he handed her a coffee.  "Thanks," she mouthed.  Ianto grinned back at her.

Owen gagged.  "You have no taste.  I'm gonna heave."  He reached for the coffee Ianto offered him.  "Thanks, mate."

Jack put his fingers to his chest and bent his knees in an exaggerated Victorian pose of injured innocence.  "Oh Ianto, you wound me!  I assure you, your virtue is safe with me."

"That's nice to know, sir."

"It's your ass I'm after."

"Ah.  Thank you for clearing that up."  Ianto stood in front of Jack and gave him his coffee.  Jack gave him a "Thank you," and a cheerful leer in return.  Ianto kept his face bland, but Jack thought he saw a twinkle in his eyes.

"Undershirt, Ianto.  Yes or no?"

Ianto folded the tray under his arm and took a sip of his own coffee without breaking eye contact.  "I believe that when putting together a campaign in which there is an unknown variable, it's best to plan for both contingencies."

Yep, definitely a twinkle.  "Clever man!  So you're encouraging me to think about getting your clothes off?"

"I can think of no practical way to stop you from dreaming, sir."

Jack pouted.  "If you're not going to answer my question, I'll have to do some research."  He stretched out his fingers towards Ianto.

"That's harassment, sir."  Ianto assumed a stern expression without losing the twinkle.

"Aw."  Jack hung his head and tried his best to look like a kicked puppy.  Ianto moved back toward the coffee maker.  After a moment Jack straightened up.

"Ianto?"

"Yes, sir?"

"Boxers or briefs?"

Thank you!

Actually the only slight fly in the ointment is their discussion about Jack's sexuality in Day One. Then again, if all he ever does is banter, they may well just dismiss it as teasing.

It's worth pointing out that no one expresses the opinion that Jack is straight.

And Ianto is built to tease!

*nods* In a bedroom. With feathers. And vibrators. And....*cough*

Well, I suppose Gwen (bless!) hadn't thought of that question, but her "he's not! Is he?" kinda suggests she thought he was straight.

And be careful with Ianto, you might break him! ;)

Oh, and I forgot originally: No, and Boxer Shorts. :)

Gwen has her fantasies too, doesn't she? ;)

At his size? I doubt it. I'd break Owen, but not him.

Mind you, there's some interesting things I'd like to try with Ianto.... :p

Boxers and Yes. Cardiff is cold; and you need an undershirt to get a really smooth line with a men's shirt. You can't stint on proper underwear, unfortunately.

I took Gwen's "he's not! Is he?" to suggest initially surprise "he's not!" and then an acceptance of the possibility "is he?"

They should know him better than she does. Or she thinks.

Agreed. Personally I don't care what Gwen thinks about anything anyway but that's just me.

I do hope she grows up some in the next series.

Less screen time and keeping her away from Jack would do me!
By the way, just realised that I didn't say in my original comment that I enjoyed the story very much.

Definitely less screen time.

I like Jack having a friend he isn't sleeping with. I hope they play up that aspect of the Tosh/Ianto relationship next series as well.

And thank you.

Very happy for Jack to have a friend with whom he is not sleeping - in fact lots of friends with whom he is not sleeping - I meant keep her away from Jack in the sleeping together sense (I see her as a sister for him).

Not much chance he'd go for that unless Rhys wanted to join in.

Which would be fun to watch, but not very likely.

Yeah, you're right about the undershirt, it really does make a difference to the line. And the Hub must be hell to heat... :)

And we don't want anything to rumple Ianto's suits except Jack. :)

Did you see the picture of GDL at the premiere? Black suit with purple pinstripes, solid black shirt, purple striped tie. OMG! I usually dislike suits, but I melted into the floor at that one.

Oh, I certainly remember him from the video of the première. GDL has the elegance, the savoir-faire to carry off a suit, to make it a tool to project sophistication and still be alluring. I fully understand why you melted! :)
