I'll be gone for a while.  My mother died yesterday.

She was not a pleasant person.  We were not close, a fact due solely to my absolute refusal to pretend otherwise.  I began grieving the absense of a maternal figure in my life over 20 years ago, sitting at the breakfast table on a trip home from college.  Still, it's now time for me to do the final tidying up.
