Fic: In Your Dreams

Title:  In Your Dreams

Author:  CrabbyLioness

Summary: Set before Everything Changes.  Jack pesters flirts with the new guy, Ianto Jones.

Rating:  barely PG for humorous flirtation

Disclaimer:  Don't own them.  Not making a penny.

It was a fairly dull day at the Hub.  Jack smelled coffee.  He looked up from his paperwork to see the new transfer, Ianto Jones, handing out fresh, steaming cups.

Jack got up, leaned against the door frame, and admired the view.  What Ianto did to a suit was enough to restore his faith in British menswear.  Jack decided Ianto had had enough time to settle in.  It was time for Jack to try out his new hobby.

He glanced around the room.   Everyone was present.  Good.  No one could say later they missed it or didn't understand his intentions.  Now to keep it light...ah!

"Ianto."

Ianto turned around from handing Suzie a cup.  "Sir?"

"Are you wearing an undershirt?"

"Why do you ask, sir?"

"Because when I'm undressing you in my mind, it's nice to know how many layers I need to go through."

Tosh gasped.  Ianto's eyebrows climbed up his forehead.  Suzie rolled her eyes.

"Back off the newbie, Harkness.  Not everyone thinks you're God's gift to bedrooms," Owen said without looking up.

"I'm just asking, Owen."

Suzie frowned.  "Owen's right, Jack.  Ianto, if he bothers you, let me know and I'll hit him."

Jack grinned.  "Oooo, for real?"

"Thank you, Ma'am, but I fear that would only encourage him."

Suzie smiled at Ianto.  "It's Suzie, please."

"Suzie."  Ianto made his way over to Tosh's desk.

"Back to my question, Ianto."

"May I ask you a question first, sir?"

"Go right ahead."

"Am I correct in assuming, sir, that you are planning a campaign upon my virtue?"

Jack collapsed against the door frame, laughing.  Owen threw down his pen in disgust.

"Oh for chrissakes, nobody talks like that!"

"Hush!" Tosh said, making shushing motions with her hands.  "He's channeling Jeeves.  I think it's charming."  She grinned up at Ianto as he handed her a coffee.  "Thanks," she mouthed.  Ianto grinned back at her.

Owen gagged.  "You have no taste.  I'm gonna heave."  He reached for the coffee Ianto offered him.  "Thanks, mate."

Jack put his fingers to his chest and bent his knees in an exaggerated Victorian pose of injured innocence.  "Oh Ianto, you wound me!  I assure you, your virtue is safe with me."

"That's nice to know, sir."

"It's your ass I'm after."

"Ah.  Thank you for clearing that up."  Ianto stood in front of Jack and gave him his coffee.  Jack gave him a "Thank you," and a cheerful leer in return.  Ianto kept his face bland, but Jack thought he saw a twinkle in his eyes.

"Undershirt, Ianto.  Yes or no?"

Ianto folded the tray under his arm and took a sip of his own coffee without breaking eye contact.  "I believe that when putting together a campaign in which there is an unknown variable, it's best to plan for both contingencies."

Yep, definitely a twinkle.  "Clever man!  So you're encouraging me to think about getting your clothes off?"

"I can think of no practical way to stop you from dreaming, sir."

Jack pouted.  "If you're not going to answer my question, I'll have to do some research."  He stretched out his fingers towards Ianto.

"That's harassment, sir."  Ianto assumed a stern expression without losing the twinkle.

"Aw."  Jack hung his head and tried his best to look like a kicked puppy.  Ianto moved back toward the coffee maker.  After a moment Jack straightened up.

"Ianto?"

"Yes, sir?"

"Boxers or briefs?"

Oh yes! That's superb! So very Jack and so very Ianto! You get the joy of the exchange so well - they both enjoy the flirting (though I doubt Ianto has any idea how far it might one day go).

[Actually the only slight fly in the ointment is their discussion about Jack's sexuality in Day One. Then again, if all he ever does is banter, they may well just dismiss it as teasing. And Ianto is built to tease!]

Thank you!

Actually the only slight fly in the ointment is their discussion about Jack's sexuality in Day One. Then again, if all he ever does is banter, they may well just dismiss it as teasing.

It's worth pointing out that no one expresses the opinion that Jack is straight.

And Ianto is built to tease!

*nods* In a bedroom. With feathers. And vibrators. And....*cough*

Thank you! Ianto isn't going to let Jack get the upper hand if he can help it. I think I've got writing Owen figured out now.

Fab ! I love this little exchange and it does capture them so well -
"Are you wearing an undershirt?"
"Why do you ask, sir?"
"Because when I'm undressing you in my mind, it's nice to know how many layers I need to go through."
Perfect !!

[identity profile] azure-chaos.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
brilliant, i love the characterisation and it sets the grounding perfectly for later episodes with the harrassment line *grins*

"I believe that when putting together a campaign in which there is an unknown variable, it's best to plan for both contingencies."

Yep, definitely a twinkle. "Clever man! So you're encouraging me to think about getting your clothes off?"

The flirting is adorable.

[identity profile] crabby-lioness.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! There's not enough flirting in the world IMO. The next generation should be made to watch Jack on Doctor Who so they can learn how.

[identity profile] fatchickengirl.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Bless! so sweet, so funny! Well written too.

Thank you!

[identity profile] gwynraven.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I love when Ianto holds his own in a verbal spar. People underestimate him far too much.

[identity profile] crabby-lioness.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
They really do. The only times we see Ianto lose his verbal wit are when there's human blood on the floor around him from mass murderers running loose, and even then he keeps his head.

[identity profile] tya-rc.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I could read things like that all day long and never get bored! I *love* the flirtation between these two. Maybe more than the actual sex ^^

[identity profile] crabby-lioness.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
You can have more variety in the flirtation, due to the *cough* mechanical limitation of actual sex. Although some smut writers are very, very good with working with those limitations, mind you....

[identity profile] sandje.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, I just love this, wickedly funny and so very well in character

[identity profile] crabby-lioness.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

[identity profile] jbsnow.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
great! :)

Thanks! :)

[identity profile] carma-chaos.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, it's offical, I've moved into new realms of fangirlism. The giggily bouncy clapping did NOT just happen. No one saw it. I deny all knowledge of such an act.

[identity profile] crabby-lioness.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"She was here the whole time, officer. We were watching DVDs."

Thank you!

[identity profile] veta-black.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to echo everyone else, both hilarious and adorable. Very well written, very in character, but I knew that coming in because you wrote it.

[identity profile] crabby-lioness.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

[identity profile] crowson75.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol - that was brilliant - faith in British menswear and Jeeves channelling guaranteed!

[identity profile] crabby-lioness.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Well, that's two things with a historic track record. And I suspect Jack is a sucker for tradition, as long as its traditions he likes.

[identity profile] dominique012.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
so cute! Love Ianto's responses.
I can think of no practical way to stop you from dreaming, sir. Lovely! :D

[identity profile] crabby-lioness.livejournal.com 2007-03-22 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! It's a posh way of saying, "In your dreams, dude."
