"Ianto, stay a moment." Ianto had given his boss a cup of coffee and turned to leave Jack's office. He didn't like spending extra time around Jack since Lisa's death. The two men were no longer dancing around each other like feral cats, but a definite coolness had replaced the mild flirting that Jack had kept up since Ianto first transferred to Cardiff. Ianto turned back around.
"Tosh gave you high marks on your first field mission. She said you showed courage, coolness, and initiative."
Ianto stared at his feet. "I'm sorry to disagree with her, sir, but I was ruddy useless."
"No, you weren't. I've seen plenty of first missions. You handled yourself well. The problems you had came from a lack of training and experience. We can fix that.
"You need more small arms training and a course in hand-to-hand combat. I can train you myself after hours, or you can sign up for a local class. Which would you prefer?"
Ianto fought to keep his face impassive. He remembered how amusingly intimate the first gun training session with Jack had been; it had taken all his willpower not to break out laughing. It wouldn't be funny this time, not when he still hadn't forgiven Jack for Lisa's -- death. And a hand-to-hand session was bound to be ten times worse.
But Ianto had never heard of Jack letting anyone else train his people, especially not in something that Jack was already an expert in. Of course Jack was aware of how uncomfortable Ianto was around Jack. Was he offering Ianto special treatment?
Instantly Ianto's back was ramrod straight. With only the faintest glitter in his eyes he replied, "You are the team leader, sir. It would be best if I trained with you."
Jack nodded. "Good. We'll work on small arms tonight. Tomorrow bring a set of exercise clothes, and we'll put some mats down in the gun range."
"Very good, sir." Ianto turned and left Jack's office. Jack wrapped his hands around the mug of coffee Ianto had left and breathed in the aroma. He smiled.

This will also give Ianto a chance to let some of that pent-up aggression out in a controlled way. Jack's probably worried that there's a ::go-boom!:: somewhere in the not-too-distant future.

I'm having wonderful imaginings of what "small arms training and a course in hand-to-hand combat" is going to entail for dear Ianto ;)
