Last time, petty crook Parker Robbins kicked the crap out of a Hydra recruiter, shot a demony-looking character in the midst of a break-in, and discovered the boots he stole from its corpse allowed him the power of flight.

I hesitate to even think this, because this is a very weird thought
but I think I maybe might have
enough shelves.

I mean I have two more boxes of books right here
but in the other room I have an entire empty bookcase
and in here there's a big gap where the three more shelves are going to be delivered.

So just at this moment, for once, I appear to have
enough shelves
and all my simple by author fiction in alphabetical order.

The anthologies aren't, of course, not by any other logic neither
and the Conan, Star Wars, and Doctor Who books keep their own logic in their own places, which are a bit crammed until those other three planks arrive.

But I have inventoried, shelved, and rearranged in something like author-series-date
and they all fit.

This may well be unprecedented in three generations.

It feels like I'm breaking some sort of natural law here.

... it also feels like I can finally be confident enough of what I've got to splurge on whole author fills to go in the gaps, so, this happy state may well not last long.

But right now
maybe
enough.

I suspect my house is more humid since I got rid of the piano.
all that century old dust must have been soaking up all sorts.

also, the weather keeps making it not very pleasant in here.

I'm withholding judgement until next week.
Once I know what they've done I'll know how I feel about it.

Oh look, I still have a Pirates icon! That's how important this fandom (and the Jack/Elizabeth) pairing was to me.

And I was very excited when the new movie came out. Bonus piratey adventures!!! Yeah!!! While it doesn't quite capture the magic of the originals, I still enjoy Pirate movies very, very much.

And the final scene in POTC5 made me burst into tears. In a good way. It's not often that a tragic!OTP gets a happy ending 10 years (real world) or 20 years (movie time) later.

You see, Disney? THIS is what we wanted from STAR WARS. A happy ending for the Original 3. Hell, I would have been more than happy for TFA to be all about the new characters with a 2-minute cameo from the original 3, as long as they were happy, alive, and together.

I don't think I can ever forgive JJ for not giving us that.

He'd gone to the arena with his slave Bran.

He'd found a lead in his investigations, a gladiator's memento.

He watched the gladiator in question, Achillia, win another of her matches.

He went down to confront her. )

It’s explicitly a book about fading Empire. M16’s roots are in World War 2, and the core of the plot reaches back to there. What is Britain’s place in the world now? What does being British even mean? In a real way, it is a post-Brexit Bond. -- Kieron Gillen

Since Foolkiller ended with the implication Frank Castle was about to shoot The Hood, and the general consensus was "good riddance", I thought I'd take us all back to a time before Parker Robbins was a lame magic Kingpin wannabe, with the MAX series that first introduced him, written by a pre-Runaways and Y: The Last Man Brian K. Vaughn and drawn by Kyle Hotz.

"We wondered if he thought a planet full of women could ultimately rebuild society and sustain itself once again. Vaughan was surprisingly optimistic on that front. "Yes, I do think it could. There were a lot of people early on in the first year who complained, "Wow, this is such a misogynistic book to say that, because the men died, the women can't get the electricity running all over the world and the airports up and running again." I think that's an extremely complex, extremely difficult thing to deal with. When three billion people die, I don't care what their sex was, that's an incredibly difficult thing to come back from. I will say that the world would be better off than if it were just the men left. I think that would be an even more dire situation. I think there is hope for the planet."

"I'd read the two BROTHER POWER THE GEEK comics as a small boy, and thought they were seriously weird. Rereading them as an adult they were still seriously weird, and funny, and touched with a sad, strange nostalgia. I'd been reading some Ken Kesey, and somehow the idea of Brother Power as a final remnant of flower power began to possess me. 'At least you didn't bring back Prez,' said my friends, relieved. Little did they know."

Today I definitely slept twelve hours, broken a couple times with drink breaks. Possibly more.
Guess moving every box and book in the house repeatedly makes you tired.

Also yesterday I bought a fan and today the weather went acceptable again so I don't need it.
You're welcome ;-)

Probably it was the being cooler and no window open that let the sleeping work.

For values of work that involved dreaming a mage caused epidemic that killed fifteen thousand people.

It was an interesting setup, college of magic, rules about celibacy, me and Magneto and the Professor planning to break them, Julian Bashir turning up for the medical parts along with his politician older twin Alex. Plenty of romance options and bonus magic. But the bit with all those thousands of people bleeding from the everywhere kind of took all the fun out of the other parts. Read more... )

I also dreamed that the reason I'm... built with a handy energy reserve suitable for surviving starvation rations... is that I'm instinctively good at the spell Monk's Feast. Hmm, dreamed it wrong, in GURPS it's Monk's Banquet. Either way, it's the spell where you can go without food or water for a day because magic took care of it. If I cast that and ate anything on top, that would all be bonus calories and end up going to my waist.

Pretty good excuse.

But I've spent most of the afternoon, it feels like, dreaming about the various slightly bad tasting penance rations of the college of magic, so I think I'm hungry. I'll go eat a real food.

So each June I sometimes try to post a Bradbury comic or two in his memory. EC did numerous Bradbury adaptations and 'The Lake' is probably the strongest.
